Hello and Welcome,
My name is Jay Lasater ...
and I'm your English teacher this year !!!
In case you are wondering, "who is
this crazy man claiming to be my teacher?",
I've put together the following brief history for you:
I was born in Hendersonville, TN, the second son of a Kindergarten teacher (my mother) and a Physics/Calculous teacher (my father). I attended Sumner County schools until the 6th grade when my mother got a job teaching at Davidson Academy, the school from which I later graduated. After graduating high school, I moved to Birmingham, AL and attended Samford University where I majored in English and Film, minored in Classics and Philosophy (I also played soccer for the University).
It was in Birmingham that my teaching career eventually began in 2010, thanks to some good advice from a local high school Latin teacher (my older brother, Drew). After my first year teaching, I moved back to TN in order to be closer to my family and begin working towards a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Trevecca University. I finally found my way to White House Middle School in 2012. Since then, I've had the pleasure of serve as both an 8th grade history teacher and as the school's SEARCH teacher before taking on my current position as a 7th grade English teacher and as one of our school's two Teacher Leaders.
In addition to teaching seventh grade at WHMS, I also help run the Game Club, serve as the advisor for the Improv Club, and annually publish WHMS's Literary Journal, "Ink". Additionally, I coach select soccer locally for the White House Soccer Club ('02 Boys team). I have fallen in love with the White House family and wake up each morning excited to go to work. I consider myself lucky to be able to do the job I love to do in such a wonderful community.
